Hey, marketers. Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimized by big, lofty marketing goals with little to no resources to execute them.

In an ideal world, we’d have endless budgets and perfect conditions to work with. Like stable SERPs and simple social media algorithms. Or consumers who laugh at all of our marketing jokes.

While that’s not (always) the case, it’s still possible to set goals that are both ambitious and attainable.
For inspiration, I’ve compiled a list of the highest-priority goals for marketers this year. And as an added bonus, I asked a few marketing pros here at HubSpot to share some of their top tips for goal setting.

The Top 3 Challenges Regional Marketing Models Create for Global Businesses

Starbucks recently shifted from a global to a regional marketing structure. Kieran and I believe this is the worst thing you can do to your marketing strategy, resulting in significant, long-term business consequences.

Starbucks’ new CEO, Brady Brewer, recently announced a shift from a global marketing approach to a regional, decentralized model. As part of the change, Brewer is eliminating the role of a global CMO and will instead have regionally divided marketing teams with regional CMOs.

While this may seem like a strategic move to tailor marketing efforts to local nuances — Brewer was previously Starbucks’ CMO, after all — we believe this is the single biggest mistake a marketing leader can make.

Interesting Examples of Out-of-the-Box Marketing Ideas [Marketing Update]

This week on the Marketing Update on HubSpot.tv, Mike and Karen discussed a couple of crazy, out-of-the-box marketing campaigns. The first example came from Domino’s Pizza. Back in April 2009 on the Marketing Update, we talked about how Domino’s was taken by surprise by an unfortunate YouTube video . We’ve also discussed the company’s reinvention through a series of innovative marketing campaigns including a brand new pizza recipe. Now Domino’s has gone one step further and taken its marketing efforts real time by allowing live Twitter comments from its customers to be displayed on a billboard in Times Square.
