Many companies have a content marketing strategy in place. The success of the program rides on several important aspects. However, the one constant is that the quality of the content must be high. However, high quality by itself does not guarantee success.

Every month I talk to a handful of businesses about their social media marketing strategy and of their content marketing. One of the biggest misses I see with almost all the companies that are ineffective on social media is they all lack advocacy from their employees.

We use content marketing as an excuse to flout the underpinnings of good marketing and say far too much about too little of what interests our audience.

A return to rigor and marketing discipline will go a long way toward establishing content marketing as a meaningful tool in the marketing mix.

The Modern-Day CMO: 7 Trends That Will Drive Digital Marketing Success

According to Gartner’s 2015–2016 CMO Spend Survey, digital marketing has moved into the mainstream, with 98 percent of marketers saying that digital methods are merging into the larger marketing operation.

A key finding from the report was that 73 percent of marketers now own or share P&L; (profit and loss) accountability, reflecting an increased responsibility for driving results.

The figures highlighted above serve as a great indication that CMOs and their marketing departments are becoming more accountable for driving maximum business impact from their digital marketing efforts.
